Established in 1992, the first project was funded to build an eye bank in Ankara, Turkiye, in cooperation with Rotary District 2430.
The next project was in Madurai, Tamil Nadu state, India, to establish a similar eye banking cooriniation dn processing facility at the Aravind Eye Hospital.
Subsequent projects have included funding sophistiacted cornea-quality measuring devices in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyederabad in India, Chittagong Bangladesh and Manila Philippines.
In addition, aanother complete eye bank proecessssing and coordination centre was established in Delhi, India, and a similar facility, the EBCRC in Mumbai, was moved to a more appropriate and modern location in Mumbai.
But much more needs be done. And only through contributions to the Gift of Sight Founation can we begin to provide the corneas necessary to restore sight to millions of needlessly sightless from injury or disease.
